Porting Oracle Applications to PostgreSQL

Learn about the issues surrounding porting database applications to PostgreSQL.

As many PostgreSQL applications begin their life by being ported from some other database management system, it is useful to look at what is involved in such an effort. This tutorial will teach what is involved in porting Oracle applications to PostgreSQL. Those who are interested in porting database applications to PostgreSQL but are not dealing with Oracle could still find most of this workshop useful, as the issues are quite similar in any case. Specifically, we will look at technical issues such as porting the schema, queries, functions and procedures, porting tools and modules, major philosophical differences between the products, as well as practical issues such as engineering and project management issues in database porting projects.

This workshop is aimed at database developers and administrators, who want to learn about porting database applications to PostgreSQL or perhaps share their own experiences. Some experience with either Oracle or PostgreSQL is recommended.
